Fog Of War June 19, 2009

One of the difficulties of playing airsoft is that from time to time the googles that we wear tend to fog up. Fans can be used to clear the fogging or help prevent it but even that is not always a clear cut solution. Just by luck I ran across a product called FogTech that is suppose to be an effective way of preventing the fogging problem from occurring. At $8.50 for a package of five wipes I have decided to pick up a FogTech packet and give it a try. The reviews on the internet seem to speak highly of this product so I hope for the best.

Unrest In Iran June 17, 2009

It continues to amaze me that Iran is engulfed in public protests over the recent election results. One would think that the Iranian Clerics would maintain tight control over public opinion but I guess their power does have limitations. I’m not sure that the outcry will change anything but it will be interesting to see if this display of public unrest will result in any re-vote. It seems the Iranian voters won’t let the issue fade away.
Presto June 16, 2009

Just the other day I was browsing through the latest issue of PC World magazine when I happened to read a small article on the lightweight Linux package called Presto. Based on the early research that I did Presto seems to offer quite a bit of functionality for a licensing fee of $20USD. Yes, it’s a crime that any Linux package charges fees but the cost isn’t too large. For more information on Presto go to their link.
Why would you want to use Presto? Simple … breathe life back into old PC hardware that is not capable of running more current Windows OS. With Presto you can start up your computer in seconds — or shut down instantly, like magic. Send e-mail, chat, Skype™, listen to music, surf the internet or download apps — before Windows XP or Vista even boots.
Another interesting feature of Presto is that it is designed to work with Windows XP or Vista. You download the Presto installer file, run it from Windows, and Presto installs itself as a folder under Windows. Furthermore it modifies the Windows boot sequence so that an option menu pops up to allow you to select whether you wish to boot Windows or Presto. To de-install Presto you go back into Windows and then run the Add/Remove function to de-install Presto.
Border War 3 June 14, 2009

Tomorrow is the Go-NoGo decision point for the Airsoft event entitled Border War 3. At this point in time the likelihood of the game taking place is very slim given that a minimum of 150 players needed to be signed up for the event to proceed and we are at barely 50% of that target. The organizers have threatened never to host a venue of this nature again and that will be our loss. Having said that the tone of the dialogue between the players and the hosts had gotten very ugly over the past few months so I suspect it will take some time for the bitterness to pass.
Night Game May 24, 2009

Now here’s something I don’t do often. I played an overnight Airsoft game at the Flagraiders facility yesterday evening. What can be more fun then stumbling around in the dark, hunting and being hunted by OPFOR and a Terminator character. The temperature turned out to be much warmer then I expected and it didn’t rain until we were almost done at 5am. Aside from a tumble on the hillside of one of the sites I survived the game injury free. I can see that night vision and radio’s are definite assets to have when playing in the dark.
Tamil Protest Blocks Gardiner May 11, 2009

And so the protesters have now taken to blocking traffic on the Gardiner highway as a way of drawing attention to their cause. I understand we need to allow freedom of expression but exercising that right in this form is not something I personally support! The protesters are pushing the bounds of the law not to say anything about common sense. It will be interesting to see if the protesters will maintain their blockade when the morning traffic needs to flow into downtown.
Fan Expo May 2, 2009

Yahoo, the Fan-Expo organizers have just announced the names of the guest stars that they will be bringing to this fall’s convention scheduled to take place from August 28-30 at the Metro Convention Centre. Of particular interest to me is guest star Avery Brooks, the Starfleet Captain from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Over the years I have been steadily collecting the autographs of all of the show’s actors and getting Mr. Brooks will bring me very close to having them all. For more details on the convention, check out this weblink.ng
Gone But Not Forgotten April 26, 2009

Come this Monday, April 27, quite a few of my fellow employees will be leaving the business because the company has seen fit to extend profits by chopping headcount and sending jobs to lower cost countries. For those who can retire or have other lifestyle options I wish them the best of luck. For those who face challenges as a result of being unemployed I wish them a successful job hunt. Many of these people had long careers, worked hard for the company, and I will always treasure my moments with them all. You maybe gone but you will not be forgotten!
